In an effort to help promote its upcoming debut movie, ‘The Conspirator,’ on-line, The American Film Company will be posting tweets from the film’s main character, President Abraham Lincoln. The studio, which confirmed the news via a press release, is hoping the tweets, which are being posted under the name @1865lincoln, will bring the former president’s ideas and writings to the attention of a new generation.
The American Film Company has released several examples of tweets that it will be posting on the @1865lincoln account. One is a quote from President Lincoln’s second Inaugural Address: “Both read the same Bible, and pray to the same God; and each invokes His aid against the other.” (He was believed to be referencing the North and the South.) Another quote is from a Gettysburg Discussion Group: Lincoln tells cabinet members about his dream of a ship “moving with great rapidity toward a dark and indefinite shore.”
‘The Conspirator’ opens on April 15, 2011, the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War. The movie, which was directed by Robert Redford, is set in the aftermath after President Lincoln’s assassination. It follows the true story of Mary Surratt, played by Robin Wright, who was the only woman who was tried as a co-conspirator in the plot to kill the 16th American president. New lawyer and Union war-hero Frederick Aiken, played by James McAvoy, is hired to defend her during her trial. Also included in the ensemble cast are Alexis Bledel, Danny Huston, Kevin Kline, Just Long, Tom Wilkinson and Evan Rachel Wood.
